Meet Stalyn De La Cruz
Building Bridges Between Data, Technology, and Business
Some careers follow a straight path. Others are built through constant learning, reinvention, and a willingness to solve bigger problems at every stage. For Stalyn De La Cruz, the journey from civil engineering and construction management to data engineering has been defined by one consistent theme: turning complexity into clarity.
Today, Stalyn serves as a Lead Data Engineer in Virginia, where he designs cloud-based data platforms that help financial institutions transform vast amounts of information into actionable business intelligence. His work focuses on building scalable ELT pipelines, developing high-performance data models, and creating reliable analytics solutions that support reporting, compliance, and strategic decision-making.
But his story began long before dashboards, cloud platforms, and data warehouses.
From Buildings to Data
Stalyn's professional career started in the construction industry, where he spent years managing complex projects, coordinating resources, forecasting budgets, and ensuring successful delivery of large-scale initiatives. As a Construction Manager, he worked with cost-estimation models, predictive planning, and financial forecasting, gaining firsthand experience in how data influences decision-making and operational success.
Those experiences laid the foundation for a deeper realization: every successful project depends on accurate information, efficient processes, and the ability to uncover insights hidden within data.
What began as an interest slowly became a passion.
Reinventing Through Education
Determined to expand his technical expertise, Stalyn pursued a degree in Computer Information Technology at Brigham Young University–Idaho, complementing his existing academic background in Civil Engineering and Construction Administration. Along the way, he developed expertise in databases, systems administration, analytics, and software development.
His commitment to learning quickly translated into opportunities to teach others. As a university teaching assistant and tutor, he helped students master SQL, PL/SQL, Linux, JavaScript, and database development concepts.
Teaching reinforced a skill that would define much of his future success: translating complex technical concepts into understandable, practical solutions.
Discovering the Power of Analytics
After transitioning into technology, Stalyn joined the financial services sector, where he discovered the transformative impact of analytics and business intelligence. Working as a BI Data Analyst, he helped convert raw operational data into valuable insights through dimensional modeling, cloud data platforms, and advanced Power BI reporting solutions.
His work quickly evolved beyond reporting.
He began designing data pipelines, optimizing warehouse performance, creating automation solutions, and establishing governance practices that improved data quality and reliability. These experiences provided a deeper understanding of how modern organizations depend on trusted data to drive growth and reduce risk.
Growing Into Data Leadership
As a Data Engineer and later a Lead Data Engineer, Stalyn took on increasingly complex responsibilities. He built enterprise-scale data pipelines, developed dimensional models for analytics, optimized high-volume financial datasets, and collaborated closely with stakeholders across multiple business functions.
Working with technologies such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Power BI, and modern DevOps practices, he has helped organizations create data ecosystems capable of supporting both operational reporting and long-term strategic planning.
His expertise extends beyond technical implementation. Having worked across construction, facility management, auditing, business intelligence, and data engineering, Stalyn brings a unique perspective that connects technology with real-world business challenges.
A Builder at Heart
Although the tools have changed over the years, the mission has remained remarkably consistent.
Whether managing construction projects, leading operational audits, or architecting cloud data solutions, Stalyn has spent his career building systems that make organizations stronger and more effective. The structures are no longer made of concrete and steel. Today, they are built from data, automation, and technology.
Yet the objective remains the same: create a solid foundation others can rely on.
