This policy explains what Jaroha collects when you read the site or sign up for the newsletter, why, who else receives it, how long it is kept and the choices you have. We have written it to match how the site actually works.
Who we are
Jaroha (jaroha.com) is operated by Datress LLC (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us about privacy at [email protected].Our mailing address is 12707 Wensley Ln, Chester, VA, 23831.
What we collect
When you read an article
You can read Jaroha without an account and without telling us who you are. When you open an article, our servers record:
- which article you opened, when, and how many times during your visit;
- your IP address (the network address your device connects from);
- your device’s time zone and browser language;
- general device facts: the type of device (phone, tablet or computer), operating system, browser and screen size;
- a random visitor number kept in a session cookie, so repeat views in one visit are counted once.
We do not look up your precise location, and we do not combine this information with your name or email address.
We do not record your reads at all if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.
When you sign up for the newsletter
We keep your email address, the date you signed up and whether you are still subscribed. Every newsletter includes a link to unsubscribe.
When you contact us
If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
Security and server records
Like most websites, our servers record technical details of requests (IP address, time, page requested, browser) to keep the site working and secure, for example to block automated abuse and to investigate errors. These records do not include what you type into forms.
People who write for Jaroha
Editors and contributors have staff accounts (name, email address and role). A contributor’s public profile shows only what they choose to publish.
Why we use it
- To run the site and show you articles, including counting reads to show what is trending.
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
- To send the newsletter you asked for.
- To show advertising that pays for the site (see Advertising).
- To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: we rely on our legitimate interests to run, measure and secure the site, on your consent for the newsletter and, where required, for advertising cookies, and on legal obligations where they apply.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files your browser stores for a website. Jaroha uses:
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
Session (.AspNetCore.Session) | Jaroha | Holds the random visitor number used to count reads once per visit. | Until 30 minutes after your last page view |
Form protection (.AspNetCore.Antiforgery.*) | Jaroha | Stops other sites from submitting forms, such as the newsletter sign-up, in your name. | Until you close the browser |
Security cookies (for example __cf_bm) | Cloudflare | Tell people and harmful bots apart. | Up to 30 minutes |
| Advertising cookies | Google and its partners | Show and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad and, where allowed, personalise ads. | Varies; see Google’s policy |
Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, icons from jsDelivr and some pictures from Unsplash. These services receive your IP address when your browser fetches the files, as any website does, but we do not use them to set cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, though repeat views may be counted more than once.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of some other vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Who else receives it
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run parts of the site for us: Cloudflare (network, security and delivery), Google (advertising and fonts), jsDelivr (icon files), Unsplash (pictures) and Microsoft (email). They may use it only to provide their service, except where their own policies say otherwise (for example Google’s use of advertising data described above).
- Authorities, when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Jaroha, our readers or others.
- A buyer or successor, if the business or site is sold or reorganised, under this policy.
How long we keep it
- Article reads: after 90 days we remove what could identify you (IP address, time zone, language, screen size and visitor number) and keep only the count and general device facts. The record is deleted completely after 400 days.
- Newsletter: while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, your address is deleted after 180 days (kept briefly so a mistaken re-subscription does not override your choice).
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to deal with your message.
- Security and server records: for a limited period, then deleted, unless needed to investigate a specific incident.
Your choices and rights
- Newsletter: use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Cookies and ads: use your browser settings and the opt-out links above.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends this signal, we do not record your article reads.
- Your information: depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, get a copy, have it corrected or deleted, object to or restrict some uses, and withdraw consent. California residents may also ask what we collect and share, ask us to delete it, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising (see the advertising opt-outs above). We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email [email protected]. Because reading the site does not require an account, we may ask for details (such as the email address you subscribed with, or the approximate time and IP address of your visit) to find your information. We respond within the time the law requires. If you are in the EEA or UK you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Jaroha is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). We do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
Security and international transfers
We use encrypted connections (https), restricted access for staff and limits on automated traffic. No website can be completely secure, so we cannot guarantee it. Jaroha is run from the United States; if you read it from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States and by our service providers in the countries where they operate.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update this page and its effective date, and for significant changes give notice on the site or in the newsletter. Questions: [email protected].
